HOOKed on Art celebrates the 95th anniversary of Walter Hook's birth!
Original Walter Hook works from private collections, from the Missoula Art Museum, and the Montana Museum of Art and Culture fill the Library along with Bonner student art directed by instructor Erin Roberts. To honor Walter Hook's teaching legacy, Bob Phinney instructs a free 2-hour class including Bonner School art students and members of the public. Walter Hook Art Scholarships are available for Bonner students for summer classes at the Missoula Art Museum courtesy of our generous HOOKed on Art sponsors. Honoring our timber heritage is a display of furniture by Hellgate Forge.

Register at 10 a.m. in the Bonner School Library for a free 2 hour art class taught by Bob. No early registration. Class size limited.
Class to be held from 10:30 - 12:30 in the Bonner Community Room. All materials furnished.
A special welcome to Bob Phinney, guest artist for the 9th Annual Hooked on Art festival! Bob was Guest Artist in 2010 and since that time has annually taught classes to Bonner students. This year, in honor of the 95th anniversary of Walter Hook's birth," Bob will instruct a 2 hour class of students and adults. (see registration information above)
Custom metal and mixed media, forged architectural hardware, housewares and lighting including architectural iron, fireplace doors, gates, and furniture on display in the Library. A specialty is custom furniture, lighting, and housewares incorporating timbers and iron from the Blackfoot River and Bonner mill site.
The Missoula Art Museum is proud to participate in the 9th Annual Celebration of HOOKed on Art with an exhibit entitled Walter Hook: Building an Arts Community Under the Big Sky. This exhibit of Hook artworks from the museum's permanent collection emphasizes the inspiration Walter drew from his beloved community.

Just as Walter Hook took inspiration from many subjects and mediums, Hooked on Art transforms Bonner School into a gathering of delights for the eyes, ears, tastebuds, and the soul. For the ears, the sweet sound of music.
John Floridis is a Missoula, Montana based guitarist, singer-songwriter and composer. He has been a resident in the "Big Sky" since 1993 having moved there from the strong shouldered, down-but-never-out city of Cleveland, Ohio. He has released 5 recordings mixing bluesy, folk-rock vocal tunes with adventurous solo acoustic guitar compositions including one seasonal recording "December's Quiet Joy." He has been named Missoula's best musician by the Missoula Independent and performed in the Western region for over a decade. He has performed with artists as diverse as Shawn Colvin, Derek Trucks, Patty Griffin, Richard Thompson, Emmylou Harris, Bruce Cockburn, Kelly Joe Phelps, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Patty Larkin. John also fronts Burning River, a blues-funk-rock concept that performs in the Western region. He is also a producer of programs for Montana Public Radio and a former Registered Music Therapist. John Floridis performs with guitar, vocals and sometimes manipulated, sampled and looped sounds.
Riley, Jen, and Grace Slayden have been playing at Hooked on Art since 2009 as the Blue Mountain Music Makers.
Riley and Grace are in a new band, the North Fork Crossing Band. North Fork Crossing Band plays bluegrass, but they occasionally include fiddle tunes, folk, Celtic, blues, and swing. The members of the band are Riley Slayden on banjo, Grace Slayden on fiddle, and Adin Kloetzel on mandolin.

HOOKed on Art, established in 2006, is a natural celebration for Bonner. Walter's friends and admirers had long felt a tribute was overdue. After the Friends of Two Rivers first successful Confluence Day, Erickson's and Matson's were celebrating with a burger at the River City Grill where they met Vic and Ilona Hangas. Appreciative of the natural resource festival, Vic's comment, "What we really need is to honor Walter Hook." With that comment, a new Bonner tradition was born and is celebrated every year on the Saturday before Valentine's Day.
