I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. Thomas Jefferson

Coal trainGary Matson submitted the following letter to the editor at the Missoulian questioning AG Tim Fox's desire to limit environmental review of the proposed Longview coal export terminal. Building the terminal would increase coal train traffic through Bonner Milltown and Missoula creating major inconvenience for local citizens and ignoring the negative effects of burning coal on climate change.

Friends of Two Rivers participates in a broad spectrum of community involvement. Partnering with other local and area organizations strengthens relationships and produces results. Whether it's publicising the Hellgate Lions Gigantic Yard Sale or the Close Up fundraiser Misfits Car Show, pulling weeds and planting trees on the restored Clark Fork flood plain, commenting on the need for close scrutiny of the consequences of megaload routes or coal export, providing financial and outreach support for the Bonner Milltown History Center, underwriting lights for the Piltzville Trail and an Eagle Scout project, leading local tours for the Blackfoot Challenge, or organizing informational tables with the Clark Fork Coalition's Milltown to Downtown, Friends of Two Rivers members are willing to roll up their sleeves and pitch in.
