Dr. Steve Running and Dr. Faith Ann Heinsch answered climate change questions posed by Sean Kiffe's Bonner School 7th grade science classes on April 23. Friends of 2 Rivers arranged for the class.

Increased export of Montana coal would be facilitated by the construction of  “…a proposed deepwater multimodal terminal in the Cherry Point industrial area of Whatcom County and modifications to the BNSF Railway’s (BNSF) Custer Spur.” The Army Corps of Engineers, the Washington Department of Ecology, and Whatcom County, Washington are “Co-lead agencies” in preparing the environmental impact statement (EIS) for the proposed project.


The analysis is currently in its “scoping” phase, and public comment is encouraged regarding what should be included in the EIS. The deadline for public comment is January 21.
